Be Patient When Pitching Your Tracks
The expression “patience is a virtue” is very relevant when it comes to music licensing and pitching your tracks.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, music licensing is a marathon, not a sprint. Success in music licensing, real success, is a long-term game. It’s just the nature of the business. Chances are you probably won’t jump into this
and have huge success overnight. It could happen. I’m sure there are probably a few examples of this happening. But, generally speaking, you’re going to have to work at this for a few years to see a substantial return on your investment. In literally every single music licensing success story I know of, this has been the case.
Of course, you might get lucky and land a placement or two right out of the gate. In my case, I licensed my first track fairly quickly. But it took years for it to become something substantial that I could rely in as a consistent source
of income. This will most likely be the case for you as well. It simply takes time to create a large enough catalog, sign them with enough publishers/libraries and have them generate enough placements to make significant money. It’s the nature of the business.
I recently learned that a client of HTLYM landed a licensing deal that to date has earned her over 30k for just one song! This particular client signed up for one of my programs several years ago and as a result of that program landed a
publishing deal with someone who signed several of her tracks. Her tracks sat in that library for several years, not being used, until eventually one track started getting used over and over and over again, ultimately netting her 30k to date. For just one song!
If music licensing is something you truly aspire to do as a career, give yourself sufficient time to create enough quality tracks and sign them with enough companies to see the fruits of your labor pay off. Far too often writers simply give
up after trying for a few months and not seeing anything happen. Think of your music licensing career as a snowball. Initially as you’re pushing it forward, it’s going to be very small. But if you persist it will gradually turn into something more and more substantial.

Hey Aaron.
I finally had a chance over the last few days to check out the new site in some depth, and wow man, I’m really blown away!
Very nicely done my man. Everything is laid out simply but professionally, easy to use and navigate, and works seamlessly.
You’ve made a friend, fan and client for life.
