A few weeks ago I received a direct deposit for over 500 dollars for a handful of songs I uploaded recently to a site that specializes in "micro-licensing"; licenses that per license don't pay much, but that can add up to something substantial over time, with enough volume.
A few weeks after that payment, i received another payment of 77 dollars for about a dozen songs that are being used in retail stores throughout the USA and internationally. Another payment, from a different website in the amount of 25 dollars was deposited for similar usage after that.
Then, a week or so ago, I received about 200 dollars in micro-licenses from ASCAP for one of my songs that was used repeatedly as a part of a blanket license deal on FOX.
I average somewhere around $2,000 a year in just these types of payments alone and truthfully I focus very little on this revenue stream. It's not a ton of money, but it's also pretty significant considering I spend, maybe a few hours a year uploading these types of tracks to just a handful of websites.
