Over the last nine years of running my website, How To License Your Music.com, and offering a variety of courses and programs on the topic of licensing music in tv, films and ads, I’ve noticed a theme in those who go on to succeed in licensing their music, VS those who don’t.
There’s one thing that every success story I’ve been involved in has in common.
What is it?
Simple really. Those who have gone on to succeed at licensing their music in tv, films and ads, have all taken consistent, massive action.
I’ve heard from dozens and dozens of people over the years who have had success as a direct result of going through my courses. But some people and some stories stand out more than
others.
Here are three case studies of previous clients of mine who have gone on to create actual careers out of licensing their music. They’ve all attributed my material as a crucial component in their success.
1) Chuck Hughes – It’s been awhile since I’ve worked with Chuck, but we’ve been in touch a lot over the years. He’s actually taken both
my 90 Day and 180 Day Challenge courses, multiple times. He was on my podcast way back in 2013 and was already making a full time living from his licensing and touring income. (Chuck if you’re reading this, it’s time to have you back on for an update!)
2) Eddie Grey – This blog post could have just as easily been called, “Be Like Eddie”, but I thought “Be Like Chuck” had a better ring to it.
Eddie has been featured on my podcast twice.
Eddie has taken ALL of my courses and programs over the years. He’s been one of my most dedicated and hard working students. He’s a shining example of what’s possible when you work hard at music licensing over several years. In just four short years,
Eddie has racked up thousands of placements and is the head composer for shows like “Born This Way” on A&E, and “The Healer” on TLC.
When I asked Eddie in our most recent podcast what separates those whose are struggling and not getting ahead in music licensing, from those who are succeeding and making a living from licensing, his answer was simply “hard work". I couldn’t agree more.
3) Paul Glover - I interviewed Paul Glover for my podcast back in 2015. At that point he had taken several of my courses and had spent several years already working on his tracks and
ultimately getting A lot of his music licensed. In 2015, he had already had his music featured on over 200 different TV shows.
When I asked Paul during our podcast how he went from being frustrated with his career and struggling, to ultimately figuring out how produce his tracks to the quality needed for licensing and succeed in getting tons of his music placed, he said what motivated him the most was anger! What he meant was that he simply reached a point where he was fed up
with not getting the results he wanted and was determined to make it happen. He’s attributed my courses as being an important piece of the puzzle when he was trying to figure it all out.
Three different people. Three different stories. But they’re all similar in that they were all simply really determined and motivated to make it happen for themselves.
Look, I know you’re probably a bit skeptical and you might be thinking, not another course that isn’t going to deliver on what is promised, but my programs and their results speak for themselves.
In addition to the stories above, I’ve received dozens (probably hundreds) of emails from musicians who have had varying levels of success with The 90 Day Music Licensing Challenge. Check those out here.
