Sometimes it's an idea or a theme that has been
brought up multiple times, but for some reason it finally clicks and I have an "aha" moment.
Sometimes it's a brand new concept that I'm introduced to by one of my guests that I'm learning about for the first time.
Sometimes the realizations I have are subtle and other times they're profound.
But almost
always, I learn something new and exciting that we can all directly apply to our music careers. It's what motivates me to keep investing the time and effort into doing my free, weekly podcast. My mission is to be the best resource and source of motivation out there for songwriters trying to license their music and move their music careers
forward.
To that end, I've decided to start doing a weekly Youtube video series where I expand on the insights and takeaways I have each week during my podcasts.
In my first video, I address a topic that my most recent guest, Music Supervisor David Hayman, from the Supergroup Agency in Toronto brought up. It's the idea that musicians need to hustle. They
need to have drive. Those that have it, in David's words "shine" and those who don't, tend to not go very far. According to David, a lot of musicians sadly don't have it.
This is a theme that's come up over and over on my podcast recently. Those that are succeeding at the music business game are "all in". The ones that are succeeding are really going for it. They're hustling.
The music business has undoubtedly changed over the last ten to fifteen years. But one thing that hasn't changed is that you need to work hard at this, if you expect to be successful. This reality has perhaps never been more true than now.
It's probably not a big shock that usually those that are the most successful are the ones who are working the
hardest. But it's easy to forget thing when things aren't going our way.
