I think most of us know the things we should be doing to move our career forwards in the music licensing business. If you think about it, it’s fairly straightforward. There are only so many things to work on. Write great songs, produce great songs and network with the right
people. That’s really about it.
Of course you can break down each one of these categories much further and in much more detail, and I do in my programs and courses. There’s a lot that goes into writing great music. Just like there’s a lot that goes into production and networking.
But broadly speaking, if you want to license your music, you need
to:
- Write great, “marketable” music
- Produce It well
- Network With People Who License Music
When you take a step back and look at it this way, it doesn’t seem that hard or complicated. Yet, so many musicians I know and work with seem to struggle to get things off the ground. They know what to do, but
they don’t seem to be able to do it all. For some reason, they get stuck somewhere along the way. They have this burning desire to make their dreams a reality, but life seems to get in the way.
We all have things to do, every day, that have nothing to do with our goals related to music. Most of us have things like rent or mortgages, day jobs, family responsibilities and so on. Most of us are simply very busy
with our lives. I totally get it. I struggle with this too. There are only so many hours in a day and it can be hard to find time to do everything we want to do.
I think the reason most musicians fail to reach their goals is they simply don’t manage their time effectively. If you want to license your music, there are things that you have to do, every day, to make that goal a reality. We all have the same
number of hours in a day, and those of us who do these things most effectively, will see the most success. It’s as simple as that.
In my new program, The 30 Day Music Licensing Challenge, I‘ve broken down the steps you need to take to start licensing your music into
steps that you can complete in just 30 minutes a day, for thirty days. Of course, you can devote much more time to licensing your music than this. But if you have music ready to license and you can spend just 30 minutes a day for 30 days learning about the business and submitting your music to people in the business, you’ll be well on your way to getting your music licensed. Will you license your music within 30 days if you take
my course? Maybe, it's hard to say for sure. The music licensing business doesn’t really work in that predictable of a way. It depends on a lot of factors, like your music, your production, the steps you take, the projects you pitch to, what the supervisors think of your music and so on. There’s a lot outside of my control.
But what I do know, is this: If you take this program and follow the steps I outline,
you’ll move forward faster and further than you ever have before. Every single artist that I know that is crushing it with music licensing has a similar sort of disciplined approach. They all have a routine that they follow every day.
Getting your music licensing is fairly straightforward. This isn’t rocket science. But, you have to put in the work.
If you want the
guess work removed of what to do and who to contact in order to license your music, join me in The 30 Day Music Licensing Challenge, starting on Monday, October 3rd.
