Early next year I'm going to be announcing a new music
business project that I'm launching. For the last couple years I've had a
vision in the back of my mind about building my "dream business" that
incorporates my love of teaching, performing, writing, recording and promoting
music all under one roof. I have spent
countless hours thinking and contemplating how to get this particular business
off the ground, but I kept getting stuck at the issue of how to finance this
particular venture. It takes money to
make money right?
One of the great things about working online is that there
is extremely low overhead. If you can
afford a laptop, a mic and a mixer you can, at least hypothetically, start a viable
business online. That's in fact what I
did when I first created How To License Your Music.com. I started with a very simple idea that I've
somehow managed to keep going for six years now. I'm pretty proud of my modest little success
on the internet.
But the time has come to move on to bigger and better
things. I'll be keeping my site going of
course and continuing my current projects, but I'll be merging this site with
live events, in person classes and much more.
Ok, I don't want to give too much away here and perhaps I'm getting
ahead of myself since this all still in development. I'll be sharing more details about this new
venture soon.
One of the ways I plan to raise money for my new project
is through crowdfunding. In fact, at
some point I'll be sharing my crowdfunding campaign with you so you can learn
more about my new project and contribute if you want. I've been getting really into the idea of
crowdfunding lately as a means to finance a variety of projects from recording
CDs to starting businesses.
At this point, whenever I take on a new project, I spend
a fair amount of time doing research. I don't
want to jump into anything blindly.
Crowdfunding is absolutely a viable means of funding projects, but like
anything else, you get out what you put into it.
I came across an AWESOME course recently specifically for
musicians who want to learn how to launch crowdfunding campaigns. The information presented in this course is
what I'm using to put together my own campaign and is exactly what I was
looking for. I thought I'd pass the
information along to you in case crowdfunding is something you're interested in
learning more about for raising money for CDs or other music business related
projects.
If you've been on my list for long, you know I rarely promote
other products or services, maybe once
or twice a year at the most. But when I
find something I' m really excited about, I like to pass that information
along. If you want to learn more about
how to use crowdfunding to finance your next CD or project check out this free four part video course.
I think you'll really appreciate the information.
Happy Songwriting!
