I was recently offered another exclusive deal from a publisher who also wanted me to give up ownership of my copyright. I explained to him that I don't sign these types of deals and directed him to the following video, based on one of my recent blog posts, to explain why:

I should point out that he also expressed interest in several writers that I work with, who all rejected his offer, without any input or guidance from me, they simply didn't agree to the terms of the deal. I don't blame them, it's a deal that requires exclusivity and full ownership of the composition with no guarantee of anything in return. Doesn't seem like a good deal to me.
This particular publisher has been emailing me and leaving comments on my video all morning telling me what a "dickhead" I am and how uninformed I am, etc, etc..
I've spent the last six years researching this industry diligently with the sole purpose of understanding the ins and outs of the business the best I can, in order to educate songwriters and artists on how to make decisions that are in their best interest, with the greatest likelihood of earning money from their hard earned creations.
I'd appreciate it if those of you "in the know" on this topic that have opinions could check out the video and leave your comments. If you disagree with me that's fine. If you agree with me that's fine too. Let me know what you think and check out what this "publisher" has to say in the comments.

And again, this is a video based on a previous blog post so I apologize for the redundancy of the material but thought you might want to weigh in on this discussion.
Be sure to subscribe to my channel here to see when I post new videos. I have been posting one to two new videos every week lately.
