One of the many reasons I think songwriters should pursue licensing opportunities is that success in the music licensing industry is not directly contingent upon the actions of others. That is to say, you can pursue licensing opportunities all by yourself. You don't have to be at the mercy of your band mates and their actions to successfully license your music.
I've been in four bands over the last decade and every single one of them had at least one member who was either consistently late for rehearsals, wouldn't practice their parts, would show up late for gigs, or any number of other things that would simply slow down the progress of each band I've been a member of. After dealing with this kind of unacceptable behavior for years it became clear that I needed to be responsible for my own success. If you're lucky enough to find 3 or 4 other guys who are all on the same page, that's great! There's nothing quite like the feeling of being in a band when things are going well. But in my experience it can also be be very frustrating when the actions of others are directly delaying your own success.
When I discovered the opportunities that exist in the music licensing industry I was thrilled because I knew that whether I succeeded or failed, I would only have myself to blame or to thank. I pursued licensing really aggressively and within six months I had my first national TV placement. And as cliche as it sounds, If I can do it you can do it too. I really didn't do anything special, other than writing some songs I felt really proud of and taking the time and effort to present them to the right people consistently until I found someone willing to support my music.
If you're interested in getting more exposure through licensing your music I offer a comprehensive program on the music licensing business called "The A-Z Of Music Licensing". I created this program based on everything I've learned about the music licensing and music publishing business over the last eight years. I walk you through the exact steps I took to get started and I show you how you can do the same. I also cover the technical side of the industry. I go over things like how you get paid, how copyrighting works, how to present yourself professionally, how to record music on a budget and much, much more! The program also comes with an updated directory of WHO to send your music to. There are over 1300 listings for publishers, supervisors, music libraries, and more! I've heard nothing but good things about my program. Here are just a few of the actual emails I've received from people who purchased "The A-Z Of Music Licensing":
Thanks Aaron. I like how you do things. Very organized and excellent presentation of materials.

Dear Aaron,
You are the BEST, bro! I messed up my back at work, and decided to give the Music Licensing business a shot. I'm a total newbie and it's pretty daunting, even though I've got hundreds of songs ready to go...
Anyway - your newsletters (and new book) are awesome, man!! You're always very reassuring, and that's well... very reassuring.
I don't wanna sound cheesy - but your writing always makes me feel like it's gonna be alright.
Just thought you should know that.
Later man,
-- Dave Fitzhugh
Most targeted info I've received in a long time.
Excellent...thanks so much Aaron.
By the way thanks for helping me get started a bout 18 months ago.
I've had 14 placements and 4 internationally distributed ringtones since then.
Peace~James Stan Tristan

Everything I know about the music licensing business I learned from Aaron Davison. His "A-Z of Music Licensing" is a fantastic guide that outlines the most important points in a clear and fun to read way. His latest program, the "90 day Challenge" was a fantastic way to deepen my knowledge about the biz. Aaron made the participants job of submitting to one company every single day as easy as possible and I am now in contact with Musicsupervisors, Publishers and Libraries. I started to look forward to the daily lead and even though those 3 months were strenuous, I was almost sad when the program ended.
