A lot of
people ask me what the chances of licensing their music are. It's hard a question to answer because there
are so many variables involved. There
really is no one size fits all answer. For example, how good is the music being
pitched? What style of music is being pitched?
Who is it being submitted to? How often is it being submitted? How often
are you following up on your submissions and so on... There isn't any single answer, because it
really depends on a lot of factors.
I can
understand why people ask questions like these, but it's a counter productive
way to approach the situation. It's much
more effective to simply decide that licensing your music is a goal and then
ask questions that will lead to success.
For example you can ask: What
kind of music is currently being licensed a lot? What is the production quality necessary for
music to be licensed and how can I get my music to meet those standards? Who is looking for the kind of music I
create? What styles of music that I
enjoy writing are actually in demand?
Asking these types of questions will point you in the right direction
and ultimately lead to your success.
Worrying
about how hard it is to license your music or what the chances of you succeeding
will only serve to deter and delay your
progress. It's an understandable thought
process, but it's completely pointless. Don't
do it. Instead focus your efforts in
figuring out how to move in the direction of your goals. Success is often times a matter of asking the
right questions.
