| How To Get Your First Placement |
|
|
Without a doubt, getting your first placement is the hardest of all placements. It's hard to get started in any business that you don't have a track record in. It feels sort of like perusing the help wanted section of a newspaper and looking at hundreds of job openings that all require experience you don't have.
How do you get experience in an industry when most positions that would give you experience require prior experience? It seems like one big catch 22!
Technically speaking, it's not a pre-requisite that you've previously licensed music in order to license your music, although it does make it a lot easier. Once you have a track record of licensing your music it becomes much easier to get your music heard and licensed in subsequent placements.
So how do you get that first placement?
What I've seen work for myself and many others is to strategically plant as many seeds as possible when you're first getting started.
I rarely hear of someone who through happenstance gets a placement out of nowhere. I'm sure it happens every once in a while. But what's more effective is to systematically submit your music to places that you're a good fit for, on a regular basis until you have initial success.
This is how I got started and I've seen this same strategy work for dozens of others over the last several years.
