Promoting Your Music Online

Published: Tue, 04/27/10

A friend of mine, Interscope recording artist John Oszajca, has been having a lot of success by taking proven internet marketing techniques and putting a slight spin on them so they are appropriate for musicians and bands. As a fellow musician and internet marketer, John's techniques for selling music online are very interesting to me.

John's been doing really well with these strategies and has recently written a step by step guide on how to do this yourself so that other musicians can start to see the kind of success that he's been having with this. He recently sent me a copy and I was amazed at how many ideas John has devised for marketing music on the internet that I haven´t thought of myself.  I know these techniques work in terms of marketing on the internet, because I´ve used many of them myself, but until reading John´s book I wasn´t quite sure how to apply these ideas to selling music online.

For example, John has a great technique for having other people write reviews of your music and referencing other artists that your music is similiar to, in order to drive massive amounts of traffic to your site. When it comes to using the internet to promote your music, it's all about getting traffic to your site and music, and the more targeted the traffic the better. John is a genius at figuring out how to get highly targeted traffic to websites and he makes five figures a month doing it!

Now, John's book is not for everyone. If you're already selling thousands of CD's each month then the truth is, you probably don't need this. But if you're like most musicians who are only seeing a few sales come in each month on the internet, I highly recommend you take a look at what John has developed. It's so simple that I had one of those "slap my self in the forehead moments" after I read the guide, MusicMarketing Manifesto.

But again, this is especially for people who are interested in using the internet to bring in sales. This does not go into the traditional, "create a press kit, book a tour" kind of stuff that you are used to. I personally think the internet is a much more effective way of reaching new fans than playing your run of the mill bar shows, if you know how to find them efficiently, which is what this book clearly explains.

Anyway, just thought I'd pass it on. See what you think.  You can check it out by going here.

Tomorrow Is The Last Day To Submit Your Music To Renegade Music Marketing

I have several slots opening up at Renegade Music Marketing for artists who are interested in having their music submitted to music libraries, publishers and supervisors working in the music licensing industry and tomorrow is the deadline for submissions.

If you're interested in submitting your music for consideration, please send me a link to your myspace, broadjam, ourstage, etc.  and reference up to four songs you'd like me to listen to.

Please email your links to submissions@renegademusicmarketing.com and include the words "music submission" in the subject field or simply reply to this email.

I'm open to all styles of music, but please make sure that your music is well produced and ready to be licensed as is.  You also MUST own all rights to your music, please don't submit any cover songs or music that you don't have the rights to.  I'll be doing my best to respond to all of your submissions but I only have a few slots open at this time, so if you dont make this round, don't feel bad!

Until Next Time... Happy Songwriting!
