For one, there isn't really a clear path to follow. Unlike other professions where the steps you need to take are more clearly laid out, in the music business there seems to be a lot of uncertainity about what steps you need to take and it can seem like a lot of success that happens is a result of luck. If you want to be a doctor you go to medical school and at the end of the road, if you pass your exams, you will be a doctor. If you want to become succesful writing and playing music it works a little differently.
Although I think there is some luck involved in terms of musicians who become extordanarily succesful playing music, I think MOST of the success that happens for musicians is a result of TALENT and INFORMATION.
