Be Resourceful And Get Your Songs Recorded The Right Way!
Published: Tue, 05/06/08
I get emails from subscribers of my list quite frequently that go something like this, "Hey Aaron I love the information you're presenting and I would probably even buy one of your programs... BUT... I just don't think my songs are ready. I don't have any quality recordings and I don't want to move forward quite yet." Does this sound familiar?
The reality is you do need good, crisp, quality recordings of your music in order to get them both licensed and ultimately placed in TV or Film. But this doesn't need to be as daunting of a task as it sounds. From a strictly economic standpoint you do want to keep your costs down if you're pitching your music on a regular basis. If you already have your own recording equipment, great, you're half the way there. If you have your own recording equipment and you know how to use it, even better!
But what if you don't have your own recording gear? Well, when I first got started in the business in 2002 I didn't have any recording gear to speak of. So.. what did I do? Based on my publishers suggestion I located several producers who were willing to work for no upfront money in exchange for a percentage of any back end royalties I earned. It was actually easier to negotiate deals like this then I thought it would be. I just ran a couple ads in Craigslist and within a week or two I was up and running with a great home based producer. And we ended up placing several songs together! It truly was a win-win situation.
So... be resourceful, there's always a way. Like they say about the Lottery here in Illinois, "You have to be in it to win it".
The most comprehensive program I offer on the business of music licensing is called "The A-Z Of Music Licensing". I walk you through the exact steps I took to secure a licensing deal with my publisher and show you how you can do the same. I also cover the more technical aspect of the business. I go over things like copyright issues, different types of licensing deals, royalty distribution, self publishing, etc...
The online edition of the program is being discounted more than 10% right now, but the discount period ends tomorrow, May 7th. It's available by itself or with a special coaching package. The coaching package consists of both a telephone consultation and several follow up emails. I'll work with you to help you formulate a game plan for getting your songs licensed based on your own unique situation.
